that's why such a huge percentage of restaurant servers end up as smokers. because it's the ONLY way you get a break. it used to drive me insane and, even more than the dumb customers and managers, it's the thing I miss least about being a waitress.
When I worked at Hilltop commons they had a very strict no smoking during your entire shift policy. We had to sit through a half hour video explaining how smoking and handling food contaminates the food. I even saw one kid get fired for smoking in the middle of a shift. I wish more food establishments operated with that policy.
