The Power's Out -- Again

Aug 20, 2011 22:10

Second time in as many days. Three hours yesterday after a thunderstorm blew through. Today, looks like a drunkie knocked down a transformer in the next neighborhood. Been in the dark for over two hours and not so much as a flicker. Just playing vids and watching my battery die. This isn't the weekend I'd planned ( Read more... )

Ouch, the power outage must be a pain. :(

I went out to meet some friends last night and took advantage of the late sunshine. Fun in my yellow jacket/white helmet having a lot of cars driving very sedately, watching me in their mirrors. ;) Much more fun going home in the dark when overtaking's so much easier because you *know* there's no on-coming traffic.

Also good fun poking round a friend's rear end - VW beetle, you understand. Very nicely kept example.

My sister had a metallic lime green '69 Super Beetle with the supercharged Impi(sp?) engine. She was the terror of old Saint Joe until her boyfriend decided to do an overhaul. Never ran right after that. Pity she married him, too.

So I'm thinking Constable Friendly wears similar colors? White helmet and high-viz yellow? Never mind the trailie. That's funny. Unfortunately, since I'm swathed in red, silver and black I'm more apt to be mistaken for the Russian air force than anything resembling law enforcement.

Hmmm.

Maybe that explains a few things.

Amusingly, I came up behind a plod bike going into Taunton and the resemblance is really minimal. The bike is a white tourer (usually Beemers or Pan-Europeans) and has stripey stickers all over it and the helmet has a chequered band around it, so what they're going on is purely gross appearance. It's a hard-wired knee-jerk reaction to a vague shape in the mirror. Really, if they can't see that there's no way I'm plod, it's their own look-out. :)

The funniest thing I saw this weekend was an motorized armchair. AKA a three wheel ... well, I don't think I can call it a motorbike. Motortrike? Would that be the right word?

I really don't see the point. If it looks like a bubble car without a lid, then it behaves like a bubble car without a lid.

Sorry to hear about the outages. What is with the weather this year? We are getting T-storms at least once a week. Enough already.

It's like a tropical thing with the storms. Clouds up all day and then cuts loose with a vengeance in the afternoon. Crazy.

I see lots of trikes down here. If I try to be charitable, I'll believe the operator is an afficionado but somehow handicapped and cannot control a real motorcycle. Otherwise, a convertible seems to be in order.

If I'm honest, I admit that I hate the hordes of tattooed, beanie helmeted, inept poseurs dog-paddling around on cruisers and trikes because they have no talent for two wheels and make a racket that substitutes for performance. But I'd never do anything that cruel.

So I'll let Moto Muffin make the rude gestures for me.

Yup, we had one guy locally who could only use the one hand after a bike accident and thus had an automatic trike - which he raced on the local (bike-suitable) club motorsport, hill-climb courses. And boy, did that trike go. ;)

After a crippling accident he started hill climbing? And I thought I was marginally balmy. LOL More power to him.
