The Internet, You Don't Want to Live There

After reading some of the vile comments in regard to the passing of Maggie Thatcher, I feel like I just drove through a neighborhood full of people I don't want to know.

I have a Falklands flag hanging in my office. It's a tribute to an heroic act of Britons coming to the rescue of folk in the most remote and strategically unimportant corner of the Empire. It was magnificent, glorious and will probably never be repeated in our lifetimes. And Maggie had the stones to make the call. Politicians are just flawed people, like the rest of us, but when one rises above the fold as she did, it must be respected.

Sorry for going on.

I went to my favourite car forum (pistonheads) where I knew I would find a genuine RIP thread. It was a very warm feeling.

I have a 5'x3' Falklands flag which I flew for a week during the sovereignty vote. (we have a random spar set up as a flagpole.) The union flag has been at half-mast since I heard. I've just put it back up with the Falklands flag beneath and will lower it again on Wednesday.

If I wasn't looking after my father, I'd be off to London for the funeral procession. As it is, given Maggie's own apparent feelings on the subject, I'll save the goodwill with friends and watch on the tv.

I read a newspaper article that had been lovingly attached to a FB post by what I can only assume was a complete moron.

As it happens, the newspaper's name was the Daily Mirror, which I find ironic as a mirror reflects a reverse image and not the true picture. Well they certainly lived up to their name and spouted out the most vitriolic and poorly written vomit I have seen in a long time. They went so far in their ill-natured attack that they jumped over the line into fiction by at least a few thousand kilometres. Every single bad thing that happened after MT became PM right up until the present incumbant was gleefully ascribed to her. A very short ten minute trawl of the web revealed the true culprits were her political opponents in most cases, and yet here is what euphamistically calls itself a newspaper busy delivering a pack of inflamitory lies to the unwashed and barely lettered readership. The mind boggles.

For some reason, the press seems to be infested with delusional leftists. Considering the burden they should carry in bringing unbiased news to their readers, it's sad to see them vent their ideological smallness.
