If you see people making mistakes, do you try to correct them?

I find I can't help but correct them.

Too many people are writing without punctuation and grammar. It's so difficult trying to read a paragraph that has no indication of where it should start or stop. Very frustrating.

Greetings friend-of-friend :)

Punctuation and grammar are the two most abused things I think I see around. Even worse is some of the misinformation I see passed around, especially regarding apostrophe usage.

I was reading on the SomethingAwful forums this morning about someone whose boss asked them to put the apostrophe in the following sentence.

The Waste Management Specialists.

Now.... its not really rocket science.... but the employer just *wouldn't* take no for an answer.

Still, chalk one up for correcting people and trying to help them :) After all - people pay for tuition, so free tips to friends can't be a bad thing.

Hm, interesting... As english is not my primary language and i have never been to school to learn it , i still make certain mistakes , and i feel rather glad when someone points it out (politely!!). It helps me to improve...

And i know exactly what you mean... i have actually received memos with such mistakes as "your" when they mean "you're" , which is quite annoying... but i think correcting your boss is not a good idea ... :P
It also pisses me off when my sister, who has been living here for 10 years still asks me to spell-check her emails and such ...

Welcome to my little world eysadyngeseth :)

As far as I'm concerned, you have a greater grasp of the English language than a lot of people I run into on a daily basis! It's good you appreciate when people point out small errors, and I expect you're one of the few people who would actually take it on board!

:)

As for the "family spellchecking" thing.... for those who don't want to learn, the only way to make them is to stop doing it for them. But, then again family will be family and its always more practice for you. Just start asking for money ;)
