Obviously, the situations are quite different (rave/industrial, toronto/ottawa), but I think the situation is one that many people in our positions are facing, regardless of genre.
DJ Leslie and I wrote an analysis of some of the problems we're having in the Ottawa area, in the hopes of encouraging people "who want to help" into discussion/contribution, but the response has been disappointing, to say the least.
Resistor is, bar none, the best event in your genre I've ever been to over the years, in any city; not just because of the DJs, and not just because of the gifts, or food, or promoters, but because of the fact that everyone involved in the project has the same outlook, and the same passion for what it is they do. the big guys get the best tracks, straight from the producers that you will hear NO WHERE else (dubplate), so when andy c plays goldclub, it's essential listening.
as far as trance? mainstream trance is so bad it's unreal, has it become tech house yet with gay builds and awful vocals about the heaven in a lover and drugs, etc?
brutal. mainstream trance is your main enemy, as it gives trance a bad name, and may soon overexpose and kill it entirely (kinda like industrial).
hopefully not though . . .
