Robin Williams is gone, at the age of 63. Which on the one hand is far too early, and on the other is surprisingly late, for a man who lived so big, and drank and drugged so hard.

It's hard to imagine such manic energy stilled forever. I'm far more shocked and far more sad than I expected to be.

Early news reports are often misleading but it's my understanding that he was battling major depression. It's possible at least some of that early drugging was self-medicating and kicking that only left the underlying problems. I'm sure we'll see a bunch of biographies hitting the shelves soon.
