Nice review ... and thanks for addressing the song's stigma, as it seems to be something that always comes up.
I'm somewhere in the middle on this tune. I don't resent it, nor am i even sick of it, but i definitely understand those who do. I don't think your fight-picking argument is too far off in my book; i'd consider this tune definitely near the middle of the spectrum of how stoked i get over the songs on this album. (Granted, it's in some pretty amazing company, so that's still staying something.) I dig hearing it at a concert, but i wouldn't say i cheer so much as say, "okay, we knew this was coming, so let's roll with it!" and then proceed to enjoy. (That said, though, while some might thwack me for saying this, i wouldn't miss it were it left out of a setlist, either -- but it's not like i ever need to worry about that.)
If I had picked up this album when it first came out, I'm not sure if I'd be stoked at this point, or let down.Wow, this is a really thought-provoking idea, and i'm now asking myself the same question

Re-reading my post, I'm embarrassed by all the typos. I need to take more time in the future.
My simplistic definition of a perfect album: an album without a single weak song. In the Rush canon, I consider this album, Hemispheres, & Power Windows to be perfect.
