Doctor Who Book Review

I'm reviewing the new books (Doc Eleven and Amy) here so will contain spoilers.

Apollo 23
I really didn't like this book, it ran like a boring cliched novel that I have found quite boring of late, I worked out and knew who had been taken over and why long before it was announced. It reminds me of previous alien invasion stories of Who just a bit updated.

Night Of The Humans
I loved this story, its a familiar tale of an asteroid collision wiping everything out but there are two twists. Twist one is that the humans of the story are actually quite primitive and have devolved a lot over a few generations. Twist two is that the Sittuun that Amy and The Doctor meet are not the savages they are first perceived to be in that they turn out to be the original savages on the planet and while the humans devolve they evolve to learn and get space travel to leave the garbage world and find a better planet.
This story is a lot like the Doctor's Daughter in that there are two opposing people wanting control of the Gyre ('planet' built up of rubbish) the Sittuun need to blow it up to save surrounding planets and the humans who think that it is earth and they are in no danger at all, there believe is so that they do not question anything they are told and there history is made up of a brand that they take to be God and there believe system is a warped version of a Western, this is so strong that when the Doctor produces evidence that what he says is right they ignore him except one person who helps him and at first the Doctor thinks he can save just one person but he too decides to stay there but this time because he knows there is no place in the outside world for him alone and that the believes his people have taken to heart has condemned them all and the Doctor in the end saves no-one.
This is a powerful story in that for once The Doctor cannot save anyone, in certain respects, and that is a very rare occurrence in Who stories.
On a lighter note, there was a guest character called Dirk slipstream and I can't tell who he reminds me more of Captain Jack Harkness or Captain John Hart, he flirts and hates the Doctor and he can never be trusted and is only looking out for himself trying to nick a key that holds the power of the universe and going to the point of almost crashing there get away just to keep hold of it.
