It's a visit. If he tries to leave SF for good he knows I will break both his legs and confine him to a bed a la "Misery".

Its a little more grey and rainy than sweet and green, though the arboretum should be in bloom

Are you saying we don't have trees and green in the bay area? This is one of the greenest places I've lived... especially in spring. I'm confused.
