During the Washington Hurrinadophoon of 2006 when the power was out to my block there was only one building man enough to still have power after sparring with the Supreme Pugilist known as Mother Nature, it was the Starbucks. I think Seattle City Light prioritized coffee houses as critical resources...

Well, at least everybody has a place to go for a cup of hot coffee once the electric has been out for so long that people's homes have cooled down to fridge level and below. Not to mention all the poor guys who are having to climb onto all those powerline-poles to get the broken wires back up, they might want to have a hot cup of coffee to unfreeze their hands again, at least every now and then...

Starbucks serves just that purpose. :)

Yeah, let me tell you I spent plenty of time at the Starbucks during the outage...I've never been so wired in my life!

The place must have been packed with people searching for a hot brew, light and power + inet for their laptops (assuming that the hotspot was still up and running).

Let's hope you didn't develop a serious caffeine addiction... *gets the coffee IVs ready just in case* :)
