we got swag

Hey LJ,

You Make Me Want To Middle School Dance

Well, a lot has been up in the past few months. Bikini season is ending, but party season seems to still be in full swing. Notably, salembroomrider's birthday party was all kinds of fun. It was the sort of affair that makes me pine for a backyard, and not just for the free rodents and housework that come along with it. fractallia, feetwilltravel, little_bird27 and I made all kinds of tasty treats prior to coming round for a visit. We made deviled eggies, a pumpkin roll, cupcakes, jello shots and a pan of rice-crispie treats that never actually made it to the party. I had way chill conversation, got to know some old friends and stayed out until 6. Go me!

Sometimes I get into moods where I feel like I really need to rush things. My friends are all very important to me - I care about you all more than I will often show. Because of that, sometimes I will try to do everything at once and strain myself to be able to spend just a little bit of time with each of you. Unfortunately, that doesn't really make me very happy in the long run. These past poly dinners and get-togethers have been way relaxed and it's made me feel fantastic. I'm not trying to ignore anyone; I just don't feel very fussed to jump up and down and out of my way if something pleasurable is already happening. *hug!*

I went to the erotica reading organized and hosted by orangetango a few weeks ago (Kudos for putting it together; I had a great time!). Six very personable and funny readers and a cozy little nouveau-art-ish venue combined to make a very fine evening. The bar didn't serve tea, but we were undeterred from having a good time. I have to say that my favorite piece was one a girl read (forgive me, gods of literature, but I remember not her name) which was the same scene written as a piece of erotica and a piece of pornography. It was absolutely hilarious. Slightly less hilarious, the other readers titillated me mightily, and their stories weren't half bad, either. orangetango's way with words even made her gay sex piece get me nice and hot. I will say that it was very odd hearing errantember read a piece written from a woman's perspective. He strung me along and totally fucked with my head right up until the end.

Riding the happy waves of potential-good-news-ness that I won't go into at the moment, fractallia and I decided to go to Spiderhouse late one night. It was a Thursday, so there were firespinners there and we met little_bird27 and savanni entirely by accident. Firespinning is so inspiring. A little bit of the incredible do-it-myself Flipside feeling crept into my veins watching them spin. I left brimming with inspiration and alcohol.

Wasting Time

I've beaten both Bioshocks at this point. They're incredible games and the second one does the first one more than justice. I felt like the first Bioshock was longer, but that may have been because I played it over the course of several months and beat the sequel in a little under a week. I loved playing the Big Daddy and I'm all ready for the next game in the series.

I'm not sure how it happened, but fractallia got interested Smash Brothers Brawl. I've been teaching her how to play and she can be a real bitch with Pit. (Squeee!! Gaming girlfriend!)

I've also been playing Fallout 3. Verdict's still out on what I think of it, although I've enjoyed it so far. They really, really like the color brown. I will say that whenever I play a "be good OR evil" type of game, I love to test how thoroughly the developers fleshed out the "OR evil" options and whether deciding to piss people off in the game has overly cruel consequences. As a quick example, Fallout 3 is based on the same game engine as another game called Oblivion. In Oblivion, if you so much as killed another NPC outside of combat, you had every single town guard in the entire world on your ass. It didn't matter if you committed the murder in the middle of the night in a small dark shack in the middle of an uninhabited forest. Somehow, the guards knew what was up and you ended up on the run for the entire rest of the game. In Fallout 3's case, it's already much more tolerable.

Also, I am enjoying Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels so much that it's probably criminal. I'm not really reading them in any order and I'm not sure if that works to my credit or detriment. Right now, I'm reading Soul Music and I have Thief of Time queued up and ready to go. I need to go hunting for more books before my stash is completely depleted. I love that he can be funny and metaphysical at the same time and that he blends the two moods and ideas so seamlessly. No wonder people love the guy.

Creativity and YOU

I've been feeling very creative lately. It's so weird how I can attempt to do something and then completely forget that it ever existed over the course of only a few months.

My automatic word writer is almost complete. I'm programming resources for learning about grammar at the moment, and this will give the program the capability of learning to place words in the correct order in sentences. After this is complete, there are a few minor things to add to the interface, and then it's a simple matter of criticism. The theory is that if you tell it, "yes that works," or "nope, try again," thousands of times, it will eventually be able to write prose and poetry that is pleasing for actual real people. How exciting!

I came across a pictorial language that I had written for a dice-style roleplaying game that never really got off the ground. I like it bunches. It looks deliciously arcane; like a crop circle and hieroglyphs all rolled into one huge picture. There's even a loose grammar to it and stuff.

Had tons of video game ideas. I'm noticing that I tend to jump from project to project. Maybe I need to stop that.

Random Thoughts

The thoughts that I usually post on my LJ entries are fully formed, at least for the most part. I have many more incomplete thoughts - things that really only kind of make sense in my head. Well, here are some of them.

Her R.I. is about to spike! But what exactly is R.I.?

I think Rolf Rambini is an excellent name for a seal. Or a badger.

I am creative and occasionally a good artist. I made a pretty sweet bookmark based on some of little_bird27's art that I saw and now I'm wishing I still had my laminator.

Is Axel Tax Axel Rose's younger brother who became a CPA?
