Yeah, well with this ship you can't really be an optimist.
yeah but he keeps on insisting OVER AND OVER AND OVER, when ever asked about D/E, that Damon is a dick, which he more or less is, but newsflash!..who isn't? and he also keeps repeating like a broken record about the fact that Damon "killed" her brother. Okay I agree worst move in the century of moves.. but Stefan has also made equally worse or maybe WORST moves. But nobody REALLY delves into that, and everybody is ready to forgive him...
Yes, you can. Despite my down moments, it doesn't mean that I'm not optimistic about the couple at the end of the day. There's been too much time and effort put into crafting their story.
Ian just needs to let go of the fantasy that Damon remains this evil-doer with no redeeming qualities. Pfft!
sumeria pointed out on my LJ that essentially all actors are trolls when it comes to touting the show in that they make comments, etc. just to rile the audience up. It's ignoring, but it's best to just IGNORE THEM! Hah!
There has been a lot of time and care in crafting the D/E story with many parallels and such. I'm still hopeful. I just needed to get my venting out.

I get that.. trust me I do. But when he keeps on repeating the "dock" thing, and the "killed her brother so doesn't deserve her" and what not... it's gets a little more than irritating at times....
Especially when Stefan isn't allowed the same kinda torture-remind-repeat treatment.
I just wish I could say to Ian, when he says these stuff about Damon that "Ummm buddy are you talking about the SAME Damon that we watched and enjoyed in our screens episode after episode?"
Yeah, I have pretty much learned to never listen to anyone having to do with the making of the show because you never know whether or not they are going to mislead you or find a way to get a big reaction out of us. And the actors are the ones that we really shouldn't base our endgame predictions on. They don't know as much as the producers/writers do and they are really biased. Take Ian for example. He LOVES playing evil Damon. He just wants to have fun and get to kill a few people.

Which, frankly? Is REALLY stupid of him. Does he not realize that if Damon stayed as he was in the 1st half of season 01, they'd almost certainly have killed the character off by now and he'd have been fired from two successful shows. I love him, but, damn, the boy does NOT think sometimes.

Haha, I’m not really the best person to comment on this issue because I’m all for the angst and wrongness and we-really-shouldn’t-do-this. In fact if D/E did turn out to be endgame, I’d probably just stop shipping them entirely (wow, I obviously have major issues in life). I’m actually enjoying their season three dynamic immensely. Like, the scene where Damon just casually went “we kissed and now it’s awkward”, BEST USE OF THE KISS SCENE EVER.
My view of all romantic relationships is simple; basically, no one deserves anyone.
Damon may have been very selfless etc. etc. in his Rose scene where he asserted that he didn’t deserve Elena, and Stefan did, but where he’s wrong is in taking the agency for that decision away from Elena. The basic assumption being that it’s not what Elena deserves that matters, it’s what Elena wants. If Elena wants Damon despite everything he’s done (and he has done a lot, I usually don’t pit one brother against another on the count of who’s worse, because they’re both terrible and I love them for it) then

Me too! But the angst and "why aren't they jumping onto each other and tearing off one another's clothes and singing happily ever after tunes" isn't mu problem here.

But...I suppose I don't think there's a double standard? Like, Damon gets flack, but he also gets the friendship and people coming to him for help and being needed. Which is a LOT after all that he's done to them. And the forgiveness will have to come slowly (although to be honest it doesn't even seem as if Damon requires it any more, everyone seems pretty chill with him these days. Alaric is pissed off, but then Damon did kill the guy just because he was being a dick to him. Imagine if someone killed Damon off everytime he was a dick to them, hee). Look at the completely different dynamic that Damon and Elena share now, she obviously HAS forgiven him and needs him (which doesn't necessarily translate to love, but that will come too I bet). I don't think it's Damon being the 'bad guy' so much as it is Damon being completely unpredictable and so everyone tends to remain wary (I mean, how would it be possible to form a true Ric/Damon friendship if Ric was afraid that everytime he got on Damon's back about something, the guy would just

Honestly, if there's a Stefan is 'good', Damon is 'bad' idea (which actually I haven't seen, since a LOT of this fandom stans Damon regardless of what he does) then it's just a fandom contruct, the show doesn't cater to it imo!
Maybe the show doesn't... but while describing Damon, some actors sure do... I know it might be them being objective, but a lot of fans actually believe everything they say.
wow, this is long, sorry! Pt 2youcallitwinterFebruary 6 2012, 18:09:02 UTC
But I do think that right now the show is DEFINITELY not painting Stefan as any ‘better’ than Damon. I mean, I’ve seen a lot of people saying that and I just don’t see it. Stefan is very OBVIOUSLY the bad guy right now. I mean, the show has gone hoarse stating it, Damon flat out said that he just goes over the edge. He’s hurt Elena badly and right now he’s being a bitch, but he is paying for it. It’s not a utopic world where everyone hates Damon but they’re fine with Stefan going batshit. Stefan has pretty much lost everything worth living for. He has no friends, the girl he loves kissed his brother, his brother (whom he’s been making all these grand sacrificial gestures for) basically went ahead and kissed the girl he knows Stefan loves. And it’s all Stefan’s fault, and he knows this. He knows he has no high ground right now which is why he’s being petty about it, and the show is acknowledging this

Don't get me wrong..... I LOVE STEFAN.... I get what you're trying to say about him being petty with the Damon/Elena issue. It's because I love him, I feel sorta weird seeing him being all .. like the way he is now... he's being a hypocrite, that's why I find it a little irritating

Re: wow, this is long, sorry! Pt 2youcallitwinterFebruary 7 2012, 07:01:29 UTC
This is definitely true, he is being petty. But I think they’re deliberately playing him like that, like, he’s a jerk and the show knows this. He has no high ground to act the way he is right now, but he’s still acting childish. That doesn’t make him a very nice person, but it makes him a good character. Like, if everyone was heroic and self-sacrificing then the show would be rather boring, not to mention completely unrealistic

(Also don’t worry about the actors, they love to troll and more often than not, they have no idea what’s in the later scripts, so what Ian says isn’t what the show says and the show is the ultimate authority).
See that's the ROOT of ALL my issues. There's a saying that if you repeat a lie over and over, it somehow sounds like a truth.
It isn't really wise to pay attention to everything these actors say, but sometimes what they say are important and sometimes they are just bluffing (Although I don't know if the recent interview of Daniel Gillies stating "Elijah is in Love with Elena" falls into which category!).... Some fans still believes their every word and then these half truths results in confusion at times.
I just wish they dialed their trolling down a notch.
See that's the thing I know Ian is trying to be neutral and objective. But he keeps on repeating "killed her brother, so he's a dick... I don't see Damon and Elena going anywhere.... their future is bleak"
Repeats of the same damn thing sometimes annoys a person. That's what happened with me I guess. There maybe people out there who doesn't really understand these techniques of "half-truth" mechanisms and believes what the actors say and starts either jumping in joy or sitting in a corner and cry. Like what happened when Daniel Gillies said in an interview recently that "Elijah is in love with Elena"..this one Source
Now that may have happened because Daniel loves Nina because she is awesome or maybe Daniel loves Elena.. but tumblr went into an uproar as a result of this declaration. That's exactly what I mean... Is it true or not I don't know (in respect to the show, I sure hope not..that would be plain weird!) but these trolling of actors gets over hand sometimes.
well hun some people are like that and also U have to remember that the most of the fanbase are teenagers so a little thing like this they go crazy on tumblr lol! but i seriously don't think Elijah and Elena gonna happen bc that will sooooo complicated and after what even Klaus gonna fall in love with her! we already have two brothers fighting and it will be so unrealistic that everyone fall for her! we can understand the Salvatore brothers but the rest???
Oh man! Just think... If both Klaus and Elijah start fighting over her, along with Damon and Stefan and maybe Matt, and suddenly Tyler wants to join the race.... ahahaha!
