So a few puzzling thoughts of mine were answered in this episode. I am not sure if I am right or not, but I am gonna take a blind shot and pretend that they are until I am proven otherwise.
Professor Shane The "creepy" Professor, as Matt so aptly put down. I was thinking about his story of Silas. And I think, immortality doesn't JUST happen in TVD, either the "Silas" guy was a vampire, or an Original vampire of sorts, that no one knew about since he was buried alive by the scorned witch, whose love made him what he became. So, my theory is, this Shane guy, is infact Silas!
He somehow sacrificed his witchery to become the immortal character for his love and an eternal love life, OR, like Gloria did magic to age slow, he did a more powerful magic on himself to keep himself alive forever with help of the scorned witch, whose name I forgot :P . And my other theory is either Bonnie is the descendant of the witch (the scorned one) who buried Silas and kileld his love, so now Silas aka Shane is trying to manipulate and use Bonnie's power to regain his everything (power, position, every old trick on his sleeve) back. Like in witch theory. What is used to do/make the curse is used to undo the curse.
So, Bonnie being the descendant is the perfect one to unlock the curse. Plus she's 18, kinda taken with the Professor, plus she's vulnerable, so she's taken advantage of. I will even bet that the witch that imprisoned Silas was also the one who made the "Brotherhood of Five".
So now Silas needs the cure, which might not be ONLY for curing vampirism, but like how the water of the lake in "Once Upon A Time" was able to bring back what you've lost, the cure is something like that. Not only it may cure vampirism, thus bringing back the dead or undead, it might also be have mystical properties of bringing back lost power, help gain back lost position. And Shane might have had a deal or something that he will eliminate vampirism once he gained his full powers, hence the council was killed by Pastor, to let him do his work, and this thought might have been put into his head by Shane when he met the Pastor.
I am beginning to think, that Shane knows more about Mystic Falls, the Originals and every curse etc, more than he lets on. So either he is Silas, or he knows Silas and is hungry for power.
OR,
Also, possible is the theory, that there might NOT be any cure!
Like The Sun and The Moon curse. In that case, there WAS a curse and it needed everything that the Sun and the Moon curse needed in order to be lifted, but the curse was personal to Klaus, in this way, the cure maybe nothing but a roadmap to Silas.
Silas, as quoted by Professor Shane is "more bad-ass" than the witch who entombed him and left him alone and powerless. So whoever wakes him up and helps him regain his power might be in for something big. Maybe getting an agenda fulfilled or ANYTHING. So this roadmap, is the hunter's tattoo. And the witch that have created the Brotherhood of Five is related to or is in fact the one who also imprisoned Silas. And maybe it is in a way that whoever kills enough vampires, thus ridding the world of abominations get's to Silas, and maybe free him. I think it might be a counter curse Silas placed on the scorned witch, or the way he was imprisoned was dark magic, so it might be a side effect of that by the "Dead Witch Council"...
Or Silas was the one who was using dark magic to fulfill his desires. The one who imprisoned him was wishfully thinking and was blinded by love, but when she actually got the facts, she tried to stop him. But Silas left a loophole...
Anyway... point is, that there is a chance that there might NOT actually BE a cure, and it's all a roadmap to Silas, who when regains might be able to wreak havoc BUT grant wishes too.
END OF CRAPPY SPECULATION/THEORY
Stefan/Elena: Last episode a very very important question and I believe a very high ranked issue was addressed, about which I have been asking question since season 1. I sometimes wonder if the writer's ever listen to us, or does their brain work in the same way like us or not, or if they even listen. In their work, they sometimes makes us feel like our theories might be crap, but then there's episode like 4x05 and 4x06. In one, in a moment they bring forward an issue that has been thought of for like almost when the show began, and the next episode, in guise of a curse or an incident they so beautifully elaborate this issue.
For example, this question.. that why does Stefan love Elena, what makes her specifically different from Katherine. And what I have been thinking and passing of as a rambling of a crazy, biased shipper mind, actually DID turn out to be true. It is her innocence, or her humanity.
Stefan would have had NO PROBLEM loving Katherine, were it not for the fact that he found out what she was. The ... for the lack of a better word ... monstrosity ... as was repeated so many times in today's episode, was the ONLY thing that stopped him from seeing Katherine in the light of love. For Damon it didn't matter, it didn't even matter when he KNEW how much she made him suffer by being out for 145 years and making him think she was trapped, he was still ready to love her and live a life or whatever it maybe with her.... but Stefan, no..the fact that Elena was not Katherine ... emphasis on "was not" ... was in fact the reason of highest importance why he loved her. EVERYTHING that Katherine "was not" was Elena, the things he could love and accept and live with, because as a human he was the ultimate standout citizen. He was tailored to accept and be the one everyone could accept, the society could accept. Kinda like Rebekah, he was also an elitist of sorts. Trash and objects that were .... floozy :P .. were something he scrunched his nose upon, metaphorically and/or literally. That's who he was brought up to be by his father. So being a vampire never changed him, "he accepted the love he thought he deserved".
This line of Stephen Chbosky is I think the best way to describe Stefan's reason or way of loving. He accepts the love he thinks he deserves. But being a vampire plus his ripper history ALSO brought in the fact that he is no saint himself, he too is an abomination, but it is a basic human and then otherwise instinct, an immunity of sorts that we tend to protect ourselves, our subconscious, body etc from damage sometimes, by producing theories. So when he was clean, Stefan took the road of righteousness and used to blame Damon for the evil he was, thus masking his own guilt. AND this road of righteousness is also the reason why he initially tried to stay away from Elena, even after she came to know him for who he is.
But then, he finally accepted the love he thought he deserved. But then the love changed, i.e. the object of his desire transformed and is still transforming into something that he once loathed. I mean everything that Katherine was MAY NEVER EVER be who Elena becomes because ENTIRELY DIFFERENT PEOPLE WITH ENTIRELY DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES, although their history might or may be similar..of sorts. But still, the fact that Elena is not this girl, the pure and innocent girl anymore, is one of the biggest reasons why Stefan is having problem of REALLY accepting the fact.
I am happy it was asked, this question of "why you love her?" was asked by Damon and then also underlined by the fact that Damon accepts WHO he is, in whatever FORM she might be... reinforced the fact that when you truly love someone, you accept them for exactly who they are. Kinda like Elena does, isn't it? "I like you now, just the way you are".
For someone who likes to be so different than Damon, it looks like, she has a LOT of similarity with him, even before she turned. Interesting. But... hey nothing that I never noticed before. ;-)
So, they broke up, by talking out loud about their heart's issues. It was weird, because I thought I'd be happy, but turns out I actually felt sad. Sad, how this beautiful relationship broke up because none of them "truly talked". I mean they talked a LOT. So much, that you an write a book about it, but never HONESTLY. HONEST feelings, acceptances, confessions is not somehting that is fluid between them. Each of them tries to portray their "cleanest" selves to the other. But relationship, i guess is about JUST not that.. it's more importantly about projecting "who you are"... the nitty, gritty and everything. The trust and honesty are big facts of why they could NEVER be this amazing thing that they could have been.
Damon/Elena: I just love how trust, friendship, companionship and understanding is so fluid between them. From the very start, Elena makes it clear that she "TRUSTS" him. Although she doesn't say it out loud, but she insinuates it pretty strongly. But even then, Damon doesn't feed on it, he behaves like this perfect friends and insists upon calling Stefan because he KNOWS of the importance he Stefan has on Elena and about her matters. The fact that he doesn't prey on Elena's scorn and worm his way through to her, is another example of HOW MUCH this man has grown from what he used to be. Plus he even calls Stefan of his own accord because he loves his brother AND he knows that he SHOULD be in here.
See, where Stefan is all jealous about Damon, Damon decides to take the "High road" in this whole episode. It's like he finally accepted that he Stefan and Elena, two most important people in his life, needs to be with one another and instead of being angry at them, he can be with them, straighten out their kinks and in the process be happy, because his loved ones are happy, instead of pining after Elena and screwing everyone and everything in the process.
It's the age old saying "when you love something, set it free".
Like in 3x10, when Elena was all warm, and "it's because of you, I am okay, I am alive, I could have done everything, I could survive everything" he chooses not to revel in the warmth and make his case strong, INSTEAD, he chooses to .. be.. Honest! :D
In 3x10, when he was being all "Awesome and Hero Damon" to Elena and she accepted that without him she couldn't have done "ANY" of it, Damon chooses to let out the truth, every truth about Stefan... so that whatever decision she makes is after knowing BOTH sides of the coin and understanding every issue.
People tends to say that Damon is someone who manhandles Elena, that he stops her from making decisions herself. That he suppresses her. True, in a way. It's like a slap seen on stage sometimes seems more shocking than the news of a death.
Damon's nature of withholding Elena seems more extreme because he acts on it. He manually stops Elena from making stupid mistakes, but when comes the choice of making an important decisions, he puts ALL the pawns infront of her...chooses to give her the ENTIRE picture, although it might work against him.. but still she gets to make a decision after judging ALL the facts.
The thing why no one really likes him is because he does that with ONLY Elena. Otherwise he is a self absorbed, arrogant, mouthy, despicable jerk who needs to take courses on manners and behavior and talking straight for once in his entire lifetime.
So, in today's episode as well, he laid out the entire picture, when he could have become (and was, in a way) the ultimate hero to her and build bridges of "feelings", but instead, he took the road which cleared the rough patch between his brother and Elena. Thus furthermore strengthening the fact that
A) He loves his little brother and cares for his matters, although he is the one to create between them at times
B) Between him and Elena, he prefers honesty, trust and friendship above everything.
I also liked how Jeremy was with Damon. I mean Damon was being his usual mean self, appalling Bonnie .. and then he strides in and plants one of Damon's face.. LOL.
Anywho, this is what I am able to remember and think upon till now, after having seen the episode. I might be positng my thoughts about the other characters later on, when I get to shed mroe thoughts upon them. I needed to clear my head first about the trio and the witch theory.
