End of Semester, Beginning of Internship

May 16, 2006 22:32

So, as I completely fail at doing my post-a-week resolution, I'll make an overdue update.

So classes are done for the semester, and things have ended up well. I enjoyed all the projects I had for the three classes, and I've already gotten one grade back (an A, woohoo!).
For Media and Politics: A content analysis of blog postings to examine the uses of framing and agenda setting in this new media form.
For Media Theory and Visual Culture: An analysis of elements of Transmetropolitan, looking at the Society of the Spectacle, Intertextuality, and other media theory aspects.
And for Presidential Communications: I looked at Bush's first state of the union, examining it for small government conservative agenda setting.

Still uncertain of classes for next semester. They had a lack of media and politics courses in my program, so I signed up for courses in other departments. Now, they have announced one course in my program, and promised another. So, my classes may change.

Now, I am starting my internship. I'm at the Government Accountability Project, in their Food and Drug Safety Division. Right now, I'm working on a project they are doing about Organic Standards.

As places like Wal-Mart start getting into the organic business, it'll be good to make certain that people stick to the standards. I'm currently putting together a briefing document on Federal and State organic standards. Future tasks will involve contacting consumer groups, possibly being involved in public appearances, and working on legal cases. I'll be bound by attorney-client privilege and everything!

So far (it's my second day), it seems like a good organization, and a good group of people. And, it's a progressive group which actually pays its interns a stipend! I might be getting a new Macbook by the end of the summer:)

That's about what is up with me. Sadly, I have not been able to start glassblowing again. I'll pick that up again, someday.
