Interesting. Rosie's Grandma just sent her Rotten School, by R. L. Stine, one of those partly illustrated early chapter books, and it was unremittingly awful. I'm returning some other things from that lot anyway, so I'm returning it. Girl characters were either pursued or pursuing, the one woman was a totally clueless awful dorm mother, the bad kid is just completely totally bad, and the protagonist is almost completely awful too. Other kids are just there to be manipulated --friends the new kid moves in and "steals" by giving them the old kid's candy bars, and that includes the only kid drawn with dark skin. Utter garbage.
