2010 - The Year of the Wedding

Jan 09, 2010 18:23

First post of the year mimics the first post of last year. A lot of repeating answers once again.

1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Drove the 8 hours (each way) alone to Chicago to visit Erica. This surpasses the time I had to drive back from Toronto to Kingston to get a forgotten and required thing before turning around and heading back to Toronto.

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I did bake more bread in 2009 than in 2008. Not a lot more, but I definitely made more and I tried out a new bread recipe from the book that came with the bread maker. Same goes for reading more. Did not start a herb garden. That one will not be appearing on the 2010 list because I now live in a basement and they wouldn't get enough light. Failed my resolutions to do a chin up and learn to swim.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My cousin's wife gave birth to their second child and son in March. Also, the wife of a second cousin of my mom's who lives in Mississauga gave birth to their first child, a girl, in March.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
A family friend passed away during the summer. I didn't know him that well, but my parents really surprised me with how they stepped up and helped out the widow.

5. What countries did you visit?
Went to Japan in February for a wedding. That was quite fun as it was a mini-JET reunion. Also got to see kazahaya and the4thhokage though due to bad weather throwing off the train schedules, the latter was for a couple of hours only. Made two trips to Chicago as well -- one by plane in March and the aforementioned trip by car in November.

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
Lazer eye surgery -- I know I said that last year, but it's still true.

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
The first day I started in the Richmond Hill office -- October 1.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Transferring to the Richmond Hill office to work in the building integration group.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Falling off the wagon as far as exercise and squash is concerned by not finding/going to a gym after moving.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing that didn't clear up quickly. Though, I've lost the ability to recover from a cold in 24 hours. Not sure what is up with that.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI... as yet still unnamed.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I guess my parents for helping that widow.

13. Whose behavior appalled you?
My own I think. I was very angry during most of 2009 because of my parents' ... interference isn't the right word, but something like that, with wedding planning. I think I've figured that out now though.

14. Where did most of your money go?
2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Moving to the GTA.

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
"Highway Star" because it represents RockBand which was played a lot in 2009.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter (marginally so)
iii. richer or poorer? Richer, but not rich enough.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Wedding planning, though that shouldn't be a problem this year since it kind of has to get done.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Mope.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With Erica and her family in Alberta.

21. How will you be spending New Year's?
Quiet night in with Erica at the apartment.

22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
I'm always in love.

23. How many one-night stands?
I think we all know the answer to this one.

24. What was your favorite TV program?

34. What kept you sane?
Willpower and Erica

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
All of them?

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The H1N1 reaction

Erica

38. Who was the best new person you met?
The people in the Richmond Hill office, can't pick just one

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009.
I am more appreciated than I suspect

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
No clue, so "Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer Gooooooooo!"

Resolutions for 2010:
Get married - Shouldn't be too hard
Do an unassisted chin up - Second attempt at this one
Re-take up squash - There is some interest among coworkers so it may happen
Buy a house - Extreme and may not get done this year, but I am seriously considering it. Sadly it won't be before the HST comes into effect.
