Today is the official release date for Belle & Sebastian's The Life Pursuit. Initial reviews are quite good, overall, but when you look at the sources that gave them not-so-great reviews [60 and 50 from Rolling Stone and Alternative Press, respectively], you can bump up their overall score by a couple of points. that, and "mandy goes to med school", but both are songs that need to grow on you after a few listens. actually, that describes the record as a whole fairly well. in that way, it's similar to the first, but it's more jazzy, more upbeat, more early '90s alternative angst. as a pseudo-retro throwback, i figure it's more palatable to the masses, but maybe i'm wrong. either way, i haven't been listening to anything else since i got it :D /end ramble
