memory lane

Ever hear music that reminds of you of a time in your life when things were awesome? Thats not to say that those times did not have their own hardships or struggles (or that right now is a bad time for me, quite the contrary), but whenever you, in my case anyway, hear that particular music you become overwhelmed with that good feeling. To be honest Dorn, working at JDSU has nothing to do with having those feelings. I have mentioned Reinventing to Nick many times in the past and Katrina knows all about how that DMB album reminds me of that summertime. Also, the Reinventing reference CERTAINLY applies to you.

Hey, you think YOU have it bad? I've inherited over half of my entire music collection from you, sir! I can't even turn on the radio in the car without hearing Led Zeppelin and being reminded of how you made fun of me for buying that T-shirt, or U2/DMB reminding me of those awesome summers in highschool. And if Nine Inch Nail's "closer" ever comes on, well... I pretty much have to pull over the car... ;) Seriously though, I don't think that gut feeling you get when you hear songs from the past means that you didn't take the time to soak it all in. I think moreso we get that feeling because we remember how good those times were and realize that they are over and we may never have them again. Sounds, much like smells can be tied very strongly to our memories. For me, the music you've shown me reminds me of some of the best times of my life- times i will never forget. And even though those times are over now, I still take hope, knowing that my life is really just begining and there are many more awesome memories to be made. At ( ... )
