Japanese verbs

Mar 11, 2005 09:04

Spent over an hour helping slantiness study Japanese last night, and now my brain is full of verbs...

おりる (oriru) to get off
いれる (ireru) to put in
いそぐ (isogu) to hurry
はしる (hashiru) to run
あらう (arau) to wash
せんたくする (sentaku suru) to do laundry
べんきょうする (benkyō suru) to do homework
さがす (sagasu) to look for
おす (osu) to push
すう (suu) to smoke
きがえる (kigaeru) to ( Read more... )

Looks like Unicode to me.

BTW, thanks for finally persuading me to install the necessary fonts on my home system. (It was working fine on my work system; I just installed all the Japanese and Unicode fonts I could find at Debian.org in hopes that the scattershot approach would hit something. Worked.)

I use a Macintosh, which has a built-in input system for Japanese (and a number of other languages). The input system can be turned on using the International System Preference, where you can configure the Keyboard menu which displays a little flag in the menu bar, according to the currently selected script.

You can probably do this on Windows, too, but I don't know how.

You need to install the Japanese IME or Japanese keyboard. You do this from the Regional Settings Control Panel. You'll need your install disk, but you won't have to do anything else. At that point you'll see an EN in the corner. Click there, then click JP and select your input method.

今日本語で言葉お書ける。

Then just switch back. Easy-peasy.

Well, if your going to have a full brain, I would think verbs would be a good thing. But maybe its just half full of verbs.

On my Mac at home, it looks like Hiragana. On my Windoze XP box at work, I just saw question marks. I didn't do anything special in either case; my own reading knowledge of Japanese is limited to sounding out Katakana very slowly.
