I can't sleep and it's 3a.m.  I didn't sleep last night either.  I need some encouragement tonight, and I turned to an old book.  I really need to read the Bible more often than I do.  Its words have always encouraged and strengthened me- empowering me to do the right thing no matter what the cost- and tonight is no exception.  My mom and dad used ( Read more... )

that is such a reassuring verse. No matter how much I stray from the church, I could not live without my religous beliefs.

I hope that you are able to get more sleep soon. *hugs*

You know what's funny about that passage? I put that on my door my freshman year of college as a sort of grounding place in dealing with coming out and the fear that revolves around that. What's strange is how closely tied my faith was to my coming out process. It was a 10 pm mass that inspired the courage within me to come out to the first person I ever came out to at Gonzaga, Jen McKasson. Although I can tell you're reading the KJV. Here's a little how my translation reads:

"1The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack. 2In green pastures you let me graze; to safe waters you lead me; 3you restore my strength. You guide me along the right path for the sake of your name. 4Even when I walk through a dark valley, I fear no harm for you are at my side; your rod and staff give me courage. 5You set a table for me as my enemies watch; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6Only goodness and love will pursue me all the days of my life; I will dwell in the house of the Lord for years to come ( ... )

I did a quartet inspired by those words once at Westminster. Powerful and simple.

My favorite inspirational text came from a Poulenc chanson titled "Priez Pour Paix" *Prayer for Peace*

Priez pour paix Doulce Vierge Marie
Reyne des cieulx et du monde maîtresse
Faictes prier par vostre courtoisie
Saints et Saintes et prenez vostre adresse
Vers vostre Fils Requerant sa haultesse
Qu'il Lui plaise son peuple regarder
Que de son sang a voulu racheter
En déboutant guerre qui tout desvoye
De prières ne vous vueillez lasser
Priez pour paix, priez pour paix
Le vray trésor de joye.

I agree, it's a very powerful verse. One of my favorites is Psalm 18:2 "The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge." I think it reminds me that when the world looks rocky and crazy and nothing is going right, God is stable and constant and is a safe "refuge."

Peace, love, hugs,
