sick

I've been sick for almost a full week. I haven't made much of an improvement, it seems to be moving from one debilitating set of symptoms to another.

Hopefully I can get into the doctor's office on Monday and see if I can just grab a Z-pack and wipe the slate clean.

Eek! Seems like you've been having a rough year health-wise. I had a thing going earlier this fall where I had one minor cold, and then was was catching one cold after another b/c my body was weakened. :p (And usually I only get sick once every 1-2 years!) Anyhow, take care dude. Lots of nasty stuff going around these days, not just H1N1.

Yeah, take care, duder. Hope you feel better soon. Be sure to see that doctor before it lingers any longer.

If you die, can I have your lion fish?

(Actually, picked up a micro reef tank used, what do you recommend to clean it out? Bleach or something that will break down like peroxide?)

How big is the tank? If it's anything smaller than ten gallons, just get a scotch brite pad and work everything clean - but be as gentle as you can afford. I wouldn't recommend any harsh cleaner, nor do you really need them.

Depending on what's been in the tank previously, especially by way of medications used in the tank, you might need a brief methanol soak - but only if copper's been present.

What are you planning on putting inside?

12 gallon. The tank was abandoned about a year ago and just sat in a room dead. I don't think anything.

I think a piece or two of live rock, some dead sand that will come alive from the live rock, and a damsel or even a clown for now, and some cleaners, try and start a system going.

Well, first thing's first. Assess the total wattage of the light system, then start a slow cycle. You need at least three inches of sand at the bottom if you want a reef system. Two for fish/invert only, but then you want some kind of additional filtration.

Starting with the sand and the live rock is a good idea. Just leave it at that for a few weeks and make sure everything takes.

If there hasn't been any copper in there and it's been dead and dry for a while, just fill it up to get the cycle going and use a razor blade to scrape off the gross unwanted crap.
