Move over Michael Feingold and Ben Brantley

Dec 27, 2005 12:06

...So today Ben Brantley had his Best of 2005" in the Times...and since he is A) not the all-knowing god of theatre and B) a cunt, I naturally disagreed with him ( Read more... )

Great reviews. I was intending on seeing Odd Couple later this year if I'm able to visit New York. Now I certainly won't. Sweeney Todd was all ready on my list, but I'll consider one of your other top ten as possibilities. I heard there was a great off broadway play of Robert Kennedy. have you seen that?

amusing. even to not theatre people. except this is good because i can pretend like i saw all of them and make really blunt remarks about them now to your friends in CAP or that other germanjew studio. im afraid you are going to make a lot of enemies in new york but even more friends for being brutally, snarkily honest. obsessor.

ps you forgot yankee candle company.

Interesting interpretations... Though of course seeing as I'm still stuck in Richmond for what seems like forever, I don't know much about the majority of what you mentioned... But anyway, my first thing, Sweeney Todd, words cannot describe how much I agree with you. I didn't appreciate the genious that is Sondheim until my friendship with Colleen, but now that I'm a huge fan, Sweeney. Was. AMAZING. So fantastic in fact that I'm going again when I go up for my 16th birthday in February, and yes of course I'm taking Colleen along. I still would like you to have dinner or something with us when we're there Anyway, my next thing, I actually enjoyed In My Life, but I see that I was with the whole it was so abd I liked it crowd. However, I was lucky enough that I was able to take advantage of Julie Coggsdale's uber cheap tickets, so I was not one of those who paid one hundred dollars. I also see what you meant about the songs being the same, and the book was pretty crappy... So yeah... This comment ended up being much longer than I ( ... )

Oh look. Sam's still alive. That's comforting. nokros January 1 2006, 04:29:24 UTC
<3 for the Frogs reference.

especially since our current president is constantly providing such rich material for a musical satire...why doesn't someone capitalize on that?

Oh, but they are. I know this only because when Emily and I go to New York in February, we're seeing the musical Bush is Bad (at the Triad Theatre). I'm not expecting it to be particularly good, but it should be a nice celebration that, at least for a weekend, we are out of a Republican state. We're also seeing Sweeney Todd again (I don't think I need a parenthetical to describe how thrilled I am about that one), and we're looking for something to see, probably Off- or Off-Off-Broadway for our Saturday night up there. I've been checking out Defiance (for Shanley), Bernarda Alba (for LaChiusa), or Grey Gardens (for Playwrights Horizons, because I was in love with that place even before I found out about the NYU studio). Haven't really talked with Emily about these possibilities, yet, though... if you have any suggestions (seeing as The Color Purple and ( ... )

Okay, I'm commenting again because I realize that in both Emily's and my previous comments, we didn't actually mention the dates we'll be up there, which might help if we're still planning to see each other up there. We're coming up on Friday, February 17th, and leaving on Monday, the 20th (the only weekend we'll ever have in February, because the 10th is the Show Choir concert, and after that we're hitting local competitions, since we're actually doing that this year).

Must have missed you today... that's upsetting. :(
