CNN.com has a column from Conservative David Frum about Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston. And same-sex marriage. It's intriguing from a rhetorical perspective. I don't think it would matter to most opponents of SSM whether OSM was already damaged already or not. It already is, and they act like it's not. Their world view isn't anywhere near on par with reality anyway.

There's no ammount of well-reasoned arguments one can make in favor of SSM with people whose entire argument against it is predicated on the following statement: "GAAAAH!! FAGGOTS!! DON'T LET THEM TOUCH YOU! YOU'LL CATCH THE GHEY FROM THEM!" They're in no way being rational. And logic is no road out of crazytown.

No, logic doesn't work with these people. But the idea that marriage has already been destroyed isn't a matter of logic. It's just an excuse to allow themselves to give up. In that way, it works for them. And I'm more than willing to take advantage of their weaknesses while the rest of us, straight and gay, do what we can to make marriage work for us.
