I'm not surprised. I happened to be living in Ireland in 1995-1996, during the hotly contested campaign leading up to the divorce referendum. Those opposed to the amendment received significant support (financial and otherwise) from Focus on the Family, among others.

Their "Hello, Divorce, Goodbye Daddy" campaign nearly won the day, too - the referendum to amend the constitution passed by a bare percentage point.

Wow, I'm torn. Fundamentalist Christians are creepy. Governments who take kids out of their parents' homes are creepy. Homeschooling advocacy sure does make for strange bedfellows.
