"Good lord, my mp3 collection has been hideously corrupted by these drive errors... oh no... wait a minute... they're meant to sound like that."
I had the wondrous experience of the hard drive in my main laptop going boom (actually, it was more "clack... clack... clack... clack...").
That cost me a lot of money to replace (2.5" 9.5mm thick drive), and a not inconsiderable amount of time. Fortunately, I dumped the hard drive into a fast machine to reinstall Gentoo. The thought of rebuilding a system that I want to use anytime soon on a PIII-600 is just too hideous to contemplate.
Yeah, that socket got a bit sparky on Wednesday night as well.
Oh, electrician number 2 came round this morning, he's looked at the fusebox and various bits of the house, and it seems there are many things that we really should have but don't, such as
Plugs sockets with switches Bonding (don't ask) A separate RCD (don't ask that, either) for the shower
He then went away to find out exactly what he's supposed to be quoting us for; he didn't seem to happy that other electricians had been round. I suspect there have been communications failures somewhere.
I've never been healthy in my life. In either sense of the word.
I'll try and avoid killing myself, on the terms that you try to avoid injuring yourself in some way, like you always do when you leave my sight for more than a day :P.
We're not camping (I would have feigned any necessary injury at this stage to get out of another week of camping), so the tent peg issue is null and void. However, for the record, guide ropes are indeed more dangerous than tent pegs, particularly when it's dark or 4 in the morning. Brownies are also far more dangerous entities than simple knives, but I'm a professional and I'm sure I'll cope!
I've never seen a tent peg I'd willingly drive through my foot either. Also, the fact that I use my (booted) foot (and not a mallet) to push it into the ground means it's unlikely to suddenly attack said bodily extremity. I suspect there is some history here that makes you suspicious of tent pegs and their lust for human blood but I've not encountered any problems so far...

Yes, I shall be there: how would you do anything without your fearless leader?

When Dawnrazor (PIII-500) was still alive, I had it using distcc to compile everything on my desktop, which made things a little more bearable.

After the power came back on sunday from th outage... ours didn't. I had to rewire the fuse again.
I also thought I was going to kill myself when the socket I was pluggin the kettle into spat sparks a good foot out.

It's the guide ropes that are dangerous.
Oh, and knives.
Knives are dangerous.
