Why listen to old stuff? There's newer music out now.
This was in reference to Depeche Mode. Hugging those sentences were "Who's Depeche Mode?" and "Are they still around?" That latter question could be forgivable. I mean, how often do you hear DP on the radio these days? Okay, I honestly don't know how much radio play they get these days. I

what the hell does music's 'newness' have to do with why anyone listens to it? that has nothing to do with quality or enjoyability. hell, why would we even bother buying cds then if we're not going to listen to them once they're 'old'.
i'm sorry, how old was this person again? and you'd better say 15 or younger. otherwise, they are an idiot.

Obviously we see eye-to-eye on how...well, retarded that mindset about "old" and "new" music is. What's scary to me is that a statement such as his makes it quite evident that music today really is viewed as disposable. New pop(ular) music comes out all the fucking time and has saturated the market to the point that it makes all of that music less special to people. Something that comes out this week, for example, won't matter to these people in a month or so.

And well.. it's been a while since I was a teenager... but isn't this how the majority of people generally act? You know.. the "you're not cool unless you have this latest stupid clothing item and listen to these bands" and it changes every couple of months. And some people just aren't music people. They just don't get into it. This kid probably falls into this category and only listens to these bands because it affects his social status. Or at least I will convince myself of this in order not to lose all hope in the younger generation.
And referencing the comments below... I was looking at that cd on Amazon earlier. I think I may have to get the single and just burn it to my computer. The only time you'll catch me wasting money on an entire cd of songs I already have is when it's The Cure. =P

I'm positive you hit the nail on the head. If you could actually witness this kid living and breathing, you'd also see how sadly awkward he is in his "am i cool yet?" spirit quest. It's sad that growing up was and is such a pain in the ass with all of that fitting in garbage. I sucked at cool so I was just generally nice. Who knows? Maybe he'll get a fucking clue. I will never understand non-music people. The thought of listening to something just to up my social status and be cool even though I find the shit on disc to be gawd-awful annoying perplexes me. I just can't wrap my mind around that one. The jury's still out on whether or not that's a short coming of mine.
The Cure is great! But my Cure collection is lame. Such is life and the curse of liking too many good things all at once.

In the days when Cruxshadows and Switchblade Symphony were fresh on the scene, I was crazy about Christian Death and the Damned.
I only get tired of hearing DJs play the same old songs and neglecting other bands of the era and other songs from each of those bands; I still can't stand to hear Bloodletting - which was once a favorite song - but for the most part - good music is timeless.

BTW, I apologize for not sending you that book yet. I haven't been to the home of my parental units since before Christmas. 0.o

Totally understandable about the book. I know that you've had your hands full with a multitude of things and it's been holiday hell season as well. I hope you and Joe are well!
