I am feeling the sharp yet subtle pangs of regret today. I didn't do something I promised myself I would do. It's partially my fault. Doing it did prove to be difficult. I'll promise myself to do it Monday

I disagree...I don't think that regret serves to help one avoid making mistakes. I think that past occurrences should be learned from of course, but you should also be glad that they happened. Humans are above "negative reinforcement of the bad behavior"- thats like hitting a bad dog with a rolled up newspaper!
Well, I would say that 98% of the time, we're above that. But in this particular case, I regret having not done something. I regret that I didn't do something that I wanted to do. I'm not glad at all that it happened. Other things in my life, from my past, I sort of regret doing, but as you say, I am glad that they happened.
I'm basically saying that sometimes, when you're thinking of doing something (or not doing something), you should assess the situation by asking yourself if you'll regret it if you do/don't do it. That's all. Didn't mean to liken our kind to puppies.
You definitely shouldn't rush from person to person, hoping that they're the ones who can fill any kind of void. Frankly I have really high standards for you, mister. Although it does suck, you know, to be lonely. I've noticed people tend to find a companion when they're not looking for one. They just... pop up.
