I'm sure you do great, I do NOT have the personality for it, I would be crying when they are mean to me and just, no wouldn't be a good idea. haha. I'm glad you are getting recognition for your hard work!

oh believe me. im an expert at hiding the fact that im crying. they make me cry a LOT.

there's this one lady, dorothy, whos COMPLETELY off her rocker. alzheimer's, dementia, the whole nine yards. and shes VERY combative. and one day, i asked her to come into the dining room for lunch and she said no and i was trying to talk her into it and she was like "NO I'M NOT EATING, I DONT WANT TO BECOME A FAT PIG LIKE YOU" and its like. yeah shes totally out of her mind and had no idea what she was saying, but it totally hurt and i ran into the bathroom and cried for a good 10 minutes. :\

i think to be successful in my line of work, you have to be emotional. if i wasnt an emotional person, i wouldnt be very compassionate ..

Isn't that just the greatest thing in the world?!?! Gratitude, gratefulness and sincere acknowledgment of what you are doing for people...it's so cool.

Pats on back - keep up the good work chickie!!

it IS the greatest thing in the world. they could give me a billion dollars and 35 plaques, but none of it would mean as much as hearing coming from the residents mouth.

It's definitely hard working in the activities department of Nursing Homes, Rehab Centers, or Extended Living Facilities.

For a good portion of my life, I gav eup my Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring breaks to volunteer my time at RNRC, the Nursing and Rehab Center where my mother (and sister) used to work as the Dir. of Admissions. My patience ran thin on a good amount of days, but I always derived such pleasure and happiness in knowing that the residents appreciated my time there.

More times than not though, the old folks made me smile.
Deep down inside, they mean well through their groping and lewd comments ;)

Nevertheless, congrats on your "feel good" moment and I hope that tomorrow is better for you than today.

so you feel my pain!
but the problem is that when you think about little old people, you expect them to be so sweet and loving, and grandmother types who just want to hug you and bake you cookies.
but its not like that. at least not where i work. we have a group of some of the most unappreciative, bitchy mean old bitties that youd ever meet. but like i said, every now and then, one of them turns out to be the sweet old grandmother who just wants to give you big hugs and make you cookies.

♥!

your job seems really interesting. is it hard to work at one of those places? what if i don't want to bathe them?

i should have re-worded that. i meant more like "is it hard to get a job at those places?" obviously it's hard to work there.

Whenever I read schnita I always think of Shirita (sp?) from Donnie Darko.. you know, "Chut Up!"
And then I think about how I own two copies of that movie and that one of them should be watched...
And then my a.d.d kicks in and I think of a million other things.. Right now, I'd rather watch Lost in Translation because Scarlett is delicious and Bill Murray is awesome and the Japanese invented Kareoke.
So in the immortal words of Meat Loaf.. Two Outta Three Aint Bad, my friend.
Two Outta Three Aint Bad.

p.s. We should re add eachother to our livejournals and no matter how little we say to eachother, respect the fact that we still know we exist.
