"When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. I'm standing here among the people of Punxsutawney, and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts. I couldn't imagine a better fate than a long, and lustruous, winter."
They showed that movie last night. I still can't quite believe that a film exists which has so many strengths that it makes me forgive the presence of Andi McDowell and the sappiness of her character...
And I also think that Chris Elliott has zero comic timing in this movie. But yeah, I think it's an absolute model of narrative structure. I actually own the DVD (my DVD collection: six boxes of Twilight Zones, The Birds, Vertigo, Logan's Run, and Groundhog Day).
