I forgot to comment last night, but I still love the ending. :) I also love the whole paragraph where James is wondering if he was ever that young. They're just too cute, especially wee little middie!Andrew.

I don't know what James has by the end of CotBP, but from what I've heard of horsehair, I hope it's bleached human, LOL. I always pick up new information on naval stories, since I don't know much about that life or history. (Now this is his dark wig at the beginning of CotBP, not his white wig later?)

As for James himself, it's clear he's disposed to be fair even young, since he could really have made life difficult for Gillette and his remarks, and chose to overlook it. Good story!
