Things That Make Me Stop Reading, Fanfic Edition, Pt. I

This is in regards to the Torchwood fandom, which is what I mainly read now considering how little navyboys fic we're getting lately, but this is probably a pan-fandom problem.

Sorry about that. The second post was a reaction to my idiotic attempt to provide a sane impartial voice ( ... )

When I'm doing despatches, you could hear me mutter about most of the above. It's so, so, so damned confusing if you have to put a newsletter together and search for the information which is either buried under tons of "thank yous", five different colours or not even there in the first place. It's people's business how they want to go about their headers, but at the end of the day, it's the readers who decide whether to read or not, and the mods to set rules.

To me, out of very selfish reasons, the ideal header would look like this:

Title, chapter 2/?
Author: mrs_norrington (because then I can only copy/paste and don't need to re-type. Lazy me!)
Rating: PG-13 (not M or 67 or lemon - I don't have a table here with all rating versions on this planet)
Pairings and/or characters

As a reader, I also like warnings, I'm fine with author's notes (as long as they are not longer than the actual story...) and it would be handy if previous chapters could be linked to.

Yes, I'm fine with Beta: joyful_molly but not a paragraph of OMG, the very wonderful talented bilingual best person ever for putting up with me through the hard times of the fic and having them push me to improve everything I possibly could so that you the reader could enjoy reading my humble offerings joyful_molly.

It's good that your grateful, but perhaps that should be sent in a private message or a singing telegram, their choice.

Your header is sane, and even in a reasonable color and font, but these 'writers' are being very stubborn and believe themselves to be "artistes" who should not be bothered with such mundane concepts as consideration for their readers.

Ugh! How do you edit comments? I've noticed at least one typo.

*sigh* Yes you're right, I have been seeing these growing problems in the fandom of TW. I myself only post my fics in two different communites, but one is a general TW fic and the other is pairing specific.

You know what's really, really, annoying? Those incredibly long, epic rubbish fics that have like...70+ chapters and the most incredulous names.

As per the Beta credit? I like to give my Beta at least a line in the author's notes just so credit goes where credit is due but not a whole paragraph. *sigh*

I don't know if you were apart of it, but remember the demise of the Sparrington parring? All these crap writers just suddenly flooded the whole com and there was nothing we could do about it. It was very sad; because some of the best writers I know were in the Sparrington com that was when they all left (and Gillington, but Gillington never had that problem^_^)

Yes, the epic posts of doom where the chapters are 500 words but yet 70,000 chapters, every chapter a monumental soap opera cliffhanger. Not only do they post multiple times a week to one community, but at the same time they post to four or five communities multiple times a week. They're refusing to consider posting five chapters in one post.

And half the time I have no idea where some of those titles come from or how they relate to the fic. TW is getting really popular and those crap writers aren't staying to ff.net like they should. (There I go, being bitchy again.)

I don't mind beta credit, but yes the large paragraphs about it take up space on my flist.
