Obviously, this is fictional.

What about now, what about today. What if you're making me, all that I was meant to be. What if our love, never went away. What if it's lost behind, words we could never find. Baby before it's too late, what about now. - Daughtry.

She curls in upon herself, wrapping her arms around her frail form and lets the tears come freely for the first time in a long time.

She has always called him a friend. She has never feared the darkness in his presence, when he holds her against the burgeoning twilight and embraces her despair.

No matter how somber the night, he has always chased away the shadows.

She’s still not sure why he chose her; she’s still not sure why he fights the love that he hides away, why he doubts his convictions.

She wonders sometimes, what he’s not saying.

Teardrops stain her cheeks like crystal cut glass, borders scratched across the hearts of men, bleeding like perfection.

All her life she has searched for somebody to make her complete. Now he dances with another and she admits defeat.

The devil dwells within, confusion and trouble carries with it the seed of heartache.

He twiddles his thumbs a lot. Once upon a time it was simple, once upon a time, there was only her.

He doesn’t forget what she said, what she did. He’ll never forget the way that she makes him feel.

He was born of her. He holds the entire evening sky in the palm of his hand because of her.

Her touch still burns, still folds around his heart, still makes him a man.

But the silence keeps him, love divides them.

He keeps one ear trained upon her heart, one eye on the woman beside him where he lies, and hopes that she realizes that he is still right beside her.

He will always be her savior, even if that means hiding the truth.

He prays she will forgive him.

She watches them together and returns his smile with courage.

She counts the leaves that never fall, and wonders why it’s always her.

She mourns what is lost, because she knows that it never really died, it just faded, accompanied by a false truth.

The pain seems infinite, like an eternal hourglass, the sands of time gnash and wound weeps beneath the scar.

She still breathes, she’s still alive and she rejoices for her soul.

Today the sky is a kaleidoscope of color, untainted. Unlike the blurs of blue and red that exist in her mind.

And just like the sun cannot be hidden behind the clouds, the truth becomes a little brighter, a little sweeter.

She finds comfort in her sorrow.

****

She is his sacrifice. Because he watches her laugh, he watches her survive and he knows that she is his inspiration.

He followed her to make it here.

There’s a sense of urgency, a new dawn breaking, and she still stirs his desire.

But he grits his teeth, because he knows his limits. He will not break.

Her boldness astounds him, because she does this for him, because they couldn’t be any more different, and he realizes this now.

She’s an epiphany.

There’s still time. It’s not too late.

****

She doesn’t give up hope, because they fell in love together.

He doesn’t give her up, because without her, he is nothing.

Parted by distance, never by heart, their love endures.

****

She’s precious in his eyes, his destiny, she will keep him warm and he’s not afraid to hold on.

His hands stills upon the small of her back as she sways with him, her tears stain his shoulder and still the clock ticks on.

They will live with the memory.
