Winter. The first time (Part 3 of 4)

Jan 21, 2009 21:31

I was meant to be helping out at church making tea and coffee for a group using the premises this premises.  But I’m not.  As it’s the first time I’d helped, I need to be shown how to use the equipment.  The person who offered to do this is ill so I’ve got a free evening.  So I am using the unexpected time profitably and watching N&S.

Part three is the hour of The Death, it's unremmitingly depressing I think, but of course essential to the piece as a whole. Having said that it's definitely the episode I've watched the least.

Now onto Pt 4. There's no doubt that it's the best single hour of TV that I can ever remember. The pace, the settings, the music, oh yes the music! Everything is wonderful and I'm enjoying so much the reliving I'm doing along with your first viewing.

I agree 100% - although one of my favourite scenes is at the end of ep 3. The one whrere JT tries to convince himself he's over Margaret!!!!!!

Oh I love JT when he says "I don't know how to dabble" *thud*

But I so want to see your reaction to ep 4!!!!!!!!!

Oh I must be alone in my love of Pt.3. Yes there is a lot of death/dying, but so much awakening within the characters. Plus a lot of Higgins who I really like. Like LT said, watching RA play John "trying" to deny his feelings for Margaret is awesome. He gives so much with just his eyes and his physical stance. He steals the focus in Pt.3 and never gives it back. It's in this part that its no longer just Margaret's story, but John's story. The way I look at the turn, is not how will John win the girl, but how will she win him.

The only thing in Pt3 I do not like is the brother. He irritates me with his whining plus he sobs like a girl.

On to part 4 then. Woohoo!!

I agree, that they have managed to change the balance so it's no longer about JT winning MH, but MH realising the true measure of the man she'd turned down and her winning JT. This bit is so well done, I think my jaw may have fallen open and stayed there. For a bit.

And every family has one - Fred is a big wuss and Fanny Thornton is a selfish cow. Both could do with a slap.

Part Three is a tad on the depressing side. I tend to fast forward through large chunks, after so many viewings.

Fred is just a big girl's blouse! I agree!
