Super-phonics

The Tubblet has been learning to read and write using letters and sounds (aka phonics).  This involves looking at the letters on the page and then spelling them out to work out the words.  She’s making reasonable progress.  Whilst walking home from school with Mr T this Friday, she spelt out C - R - A - P phonically and then told him exactly what ( Read more... )

ROFL!! When they are so young its impossible to discourage them even when not-so-nice words are the reason for the progress. It's also those moments that are the best, and I can say from personal experience, are the ones that get re-told when they grow up.

Trust me, it could be way worse. There was the evening E came upstairs, at age five, and said, "Daddy told me to 'F*** off!'"

Of course, the explanation was that Daddy was trying to order a long form birth certificate for her, with only 30 minutes to complete all the online entries, on our dial-up, but still! Poor little mite!

CRAP is a much nicer word!!! Hugs, hun!

It certainly could be worse, Tubbsie, and I have to say: Phonics worked for me!!

Look at what a great writer I turned out to be (heehee).

Seriously, I wish they still used phonics in our schools in the US; I think the literacy rate would be much higher.
