Daft hamster

I was rearranging cages a bit today to make things a bit more interesting for the hamsters. I put Patrick's food bowl into a wicker basket which is maybe 6" tall, if that. He has a log he can crawl through and I put that next to the basket. I also put a ladder going up the other side of the basket.

Poor old Patrick spent ten minutes running round ( Read more... )

Are other people's hamsters like this? Or are mine just not very clever?

Well, my old hamster used to eat onion, eventhough it made him pull funny faces and cry. Then again, that one did eat 6 holes in the sleve of my school blazer once too because my mum left the ironed pile a little too close to his cage. Another one used to bite the cats tail and paws if the cat sat on the cage, he also used to chase the cat when he was in his ball, but one day he hit the door too hard, the ball broke and the cat saw her opportunity, picked him up and ran away with him in her mouth. Happily she didn't run too far and my sister caught her and rescued the hamster.

I don't know, are your more silly than others???

What patient cats! Ours would hit the roof if she had her tail bitten. Lucky you got the hamster back! Bet your mum was less than impressed about the blazer though.

Don't know. Patrick did strike me as being particularly dopey this evening going round and round in circles and repeatedly trying the impossible, but then, that's not really beyond some people either...

My school were not impressed about the blazer, but, we only had 7 weeks left until I left the school for good and my mum refused to buy another one for that amount yet my school claimed I HAD to have one (but I got away with it in the end), but the letter she wrote explaining why I wasn't wearing one of "Please excuse Cheryle for not wearing her blazer, the hamster has chewed 6 holes in it" was framed and hung on the wall in the head of year's office. When I went back to visit 2 years later the letter was still up on the wall.

I think in general hamsters are not as clever as we like to think they are.

I think they had a bit of a handicap with their names! Not the brightest of people they're named for ;)
