Damn you, Oprah Winfrey

So, Oprah has me all freaked out about putting pictures of Dot on LJ and Facebook.

Thoughts?

What is oprah saying about it?

I personally don't put full size pics of indy on lj unless it's under f-lock

I got pics on facebook but my profile is friends only so I think it would be hard to get them off of there.

The only thing I'm really paranoid about is someone taking the pics and pretending indira is theirs or something.... It creeps me out. (I also feel that way about pics of my pets)

She just had a really distrubing show about child porn and videos of sexual torture and such online, and it got me all worried that someone might see my adorable daughter and get obsessed with her and want to kidnap her or something.

Oprah can be a fear monger. Did she mention that when it comes to child porn, molestation/rape and kidnapping more often than not it's done by someone the child knows? So keeping her photos off the net isn't going to make her any safer.

Oprah deals in fear. Fear sells books, sells ad time on tv shows.

Screw that. I just took on Cisco systems in a blog post. Which will of course ruin my career and leave me selling pencils on a street corner.

Screw fear.

Aren't kids at far more risk from people you know?

Not that you want to take undue chances, but most of the picture posts are locked right?

I don't know. Maybe I'm just overly lax.

There's a great show by Penn & Teller on this subject. People worry about strangers, but odds are that the kids who are going to be hurt by adults are going to be hurt by friends and family ( ... )

In case I never mention it, I love you. I love your wife, too. You two always have the best, most well-thought out, spot-on, compassionate advice. (Please tell her I said so!) I am so glad to have you back in my life and that you brought her with you!

All the pictures I post of Boo are f-locked, both on LJ and facebook. They will be "public" in the scrapbook function on LJ for a week, so I can link to them in a post and have them viewable ( ... )
