Selfish

I have to hand it to my mother. She raised me to be a very respectful young man. I was raised to be giving, fair, and selfless. Almost too much sometimes. I don't do shows or sing in church choirs for free, either. I would not do it if they can't pay. However, what you should do is write the producer lady and tell her you're a college student on a tight budget and that you very simply can't afford to work for free. If they can't pay you, as much as you really really want to do the show, you'll have to go get a part-time job elsewhere because you have to pay your bills. If they say they'll "try" to find some money for you, ask her to personally guarantee your salary, and get it in writing. If they can't come up with that, then you very simply have to stand your ground and leave the show. This is a business. They know that. You have obligations; they did too, but they couldn't meet theirs; that's no reason for them to make you be unable to meet yours, however. Good luck!

Seriously, Companies understand that professional actors, are just that professional. If they promised you pay & then re-nigged, I'd say you have every right to not do the show. You have to make a living at this. I am not familiar with the companies out there - is it reputable & worth sticking with if it's gonna look good on your resume in the end?
