YAY for good advice!
I went to my local ABA meeting yesterday because their discussion topic was "Breastfeeding and Pregnancy." I was very happy I went. As you probably know, I only know one other person who has been in this position and she weaned her child immediately on to dairy formula which I wasn't feeling was right for us. At the talk there ( Read more... )

Arancini is fantastic! What a domestic goddess you are! I made some once - but that was definitely in the days before children. Should have a go again some day soon as Sophie would love it.

I have seen some cots on the market that convert into toddler beds and even then into single beds (and then into something else as well, but I can't remember what)...they are probably ridiculously expensive and you'd have to have space to store the spare bits, I guess. Some cradles are bigger than bassinettes - might last the new baby a bit longer until Alice is in a bed and baby can move into the cot. Hehehe - then you could get a little chubba bubba like Alannah who was out of her bassinette by age 2 months (if not before).

I make arancini quite often. What I do is make a big batch of risotto for dinner one night and then the next night use the leftovers for arancini. I find the arancini is better with cold leftover risotto than a fresh lot anyway. I make big balls and serve it with a tomato sauce and salad (I suppose you'd have to have vegies with your hot/cold food mix issue :P)

You've hit the nail on the head with the chubba bubba comment - I am worried I will have a bigger baby next time and won't be able to put him/her in the cot. Cam was so long when he was a baby that he was out of it by 6 weeks!! Alice was in hers for 6 months. Alice's cot converts into a bed but we'll need it for the bub.

I have a friend who bought a single bed mattress and put it on the floor while her oldest child was still young...

I knew you'd have some good advice :) Was Olivia's "big bed" just a standard single bed? I already have a bed guard so I could use that for Alice, though I like the sausage roll idea. Thanks Dee!

Arancini is balls of risotto with cheese in the middle, crumbed and deep fried and usually served with a tomato sauce. Terribly fatty but oh so good :)

I too was wondering what Arancini was. I've never heard of it, but it sounds delicious. Not that we'd ever have it in this house as I've never made risotto before either. Would it work with just plain rice?

I used the rolled up sheet idea from Dee for T. He'd usually wriggle down the end of the bed, past the safety guard, so I had sheets rolled up all the way down the bed. It worked a treat, and was good for when we went on holidays too.

I knew you'd work something out with the feeding arrangements. I'm sure Alice will work out what is best for her (and you). Kids are little, and young, but they are generally not stupid with doing what they want and what they feel is right for themselves.

And here's hoping you don't have the difference in babies from 7lb 13oz to 9lb 3oz......and 3cm extra in length. No wonder I looked HUGE when carrying T! LOL!

I don't think it would be as tasty with plain rice coz its kind of sticky and mushy inside. mmmmm.

Another sheet sausage user - I'm thinking this is the way to go!! Thanks for the advice :)

wow an extra 2lbs - I hope not!!!

Can give you absolutely no advice on children/babies etc but am very interested in hearing about the arancini.......

Do you have a recipe that you use or are you one of those people I'm dead jealous of and can just whip it up from memory???

I'm afraid I just whip up the arancini. It's dead easy though - I just mix an egg in with the risotto (you can use any risotto, I like mushroom) then grab a handful, pop a 1cm cube of cheese in the middle and roll the whole thing in breadcrumbs. Deep fry in a fryer or a deep pan/wok of oil.

The sauce is just garlic, onion, basil, tinned tomatoes and some tomato paste.
