Today I cleaned the whole house without any chemical cleaners!! Thought I'd share my techniques for anyone who's interested in reducing nasty cleaning chemicals.

I clean the bathroom benches and bath with Ecover Cream Cleanser. I've also tried the Ecostore one and they are both about the same. I have to admit that they don't really do that well with ( Read more... )

I used to be chemical free before I got my cleaner. I had to compromise on the chemical thing to actually get my house clean!

And let's not start on the state of my oven. No simple wipe down is going to solve that disaster zone.

I had wondered how you were going with your cleaner. I take it she brings her own stuff. We all have to compromise somewhere and your own sanity and a break from cleaning has to come first :)

As Cam is always telling me, I can't go straight from typical consumer to completely self-sufficient, off-the-grid eco warrior in one step :P

Hmm, I have to agree with the comment on the oven! Mine's usually bad too! Thanks for the other tips, I might have to look into them :)

Thanks to you again for your tip on the orange power. Even cam has been so impressed, he tell everyone. You'd think he was on their payroll!!

Cockroaches will survive nuclear war apparently so fuck knows what kills them. I hate them but we don't have many. Do they have a natural predator?? Maybe get a cat to kill them and the rats in one go LOL

I buy some of the stuff at the supermarket, some at my local eco-store and some online.

I know seventh generation are available at supermarkets, so are method. Both are great biodegradable cleaning options (though my MIL says their toilet cleaner doesn't make her loo sparkle. I think she spends too much time looking at it then LOL)
