Um, frankly, to you and Thom both, the first thing I'd worry about regarding the prescription for feline antidepressants, is not how poorly or well you're caring for your cat, but about how your con-man veterinarian is making an easy living off you.

If the veterinarian who prescribed antidepressants for your cat is an ancient and trusted family friend, please ignore this comment.

Well, it's not like she's on anti-depressants for the rest of her life -- it's a single prescription given that she's yowling, drooling heavily and inappropriately pissing over the last week or so without anything popping up on the bloodwork, urinework(?) or the x-rays.

Although we don't have a deep and meaningful relationship with our vet, we have been seeing him for a while for a number of animals and he seems to know his shit. Plus he has this awesome droopy mustache that goes at least 3 inches below his chin. I wouldn't have wanted to do it unless on some level I agreed with him -- her overall behavior does seem to suggest some sort of behavioral/trauma issue, with the theory that a short run of anti-depressants will help her "normalize".
