So hey, have you all seen Frozen? No? Well, you should. Just go. Now. You can do that, right? You all need a long lunch break or something. *nods

I fell in love with it, too! I had heard from people online that "No, really, go!" and I was so glad I did. I went with a friend, and after "Let it Go," we turned to each other--just utterly in love. You should have seen how my friend reacted during the scene when Anna is back with Hans just before--I'm trying to keep spoilers to a minimum, but you know the one I mean.
(I have seen a couple of good critiques of it that point out valid places where it could be made better, but honestly, I really liked it and don't feel the need to go into those, because it was so much fun. Also a lot of the underlying messages are GOOD.)
Yeah. I mean, there are definitely still areas where Disney needs to progress, don't get me wrong, but just … possibly I am going to have to do another completely different post from this one where I am not going to accidentally spoil the people I am trying to convince to see the movie? lol. But I really just want to say, look, watch this movie. Disney is listening. They aren't perfect, but they are moving in the right direction, and I'd like to believe that they really do understand the ginormous influence they have over a lot of very young girls via their media and products.
I know! I need to see this! I read an early report months ago that got me really excited about it, and now people like you that I trust completely are backing that up, YAY! Hopefully this weekend...
The soundtrack is basically on infinite repeat in my house - either because the soundtrack is actually playing, or because the kids are still singing it. :) Idina Menzel is definitely worth the price of the ticket alone. That and Anna's party dress which was like an entire character itself!
have there been negative opinions about this movie?
I mean, there's of course been the continued 'Disney, why is your representation of PoC still not better?' Which I totally respect. The other stuff is more … idk. Some people are disappointed that the story strays pretty far from the original folk story/fairy tale versions. And also that some of the other female characters from those stories were cut from the movie version.
This opinion piece in the Atlantic (in which even the title is a complete giant spoiler? Glad I saw the movie before it decided to show up on my Facebook feed) was interesting - my kids didn't even blink at what she's talking about, but then again there's definitely a discrepancy between the ages that Disney's

and my 9 yo didn't hide his face at the kissing parts, so you KNOW it's good
Hahahaha! Yes, that is definitely a compliment. Mine both loved it too - we got some funny looks in the grocery store when they were singing Let it Go at the top of their lungs. lol
I mean, spoiler, but there are no spaceships or giant robots. *g* Seriously, though, I think they will enjoy it despite the princesses, lol, and I am sure you will too.
