apparition

do you have to have BEEN somewhere before you apparate there?

the only info i could fine on the lexicon was this. it says Apparition becomes increasingly unreliable over very long distances, and only highly skilled wizards are wise to attempt it across continents.

but that doesn't clarify it, to me.

thoughts? references i haven't thought of?

oh ok. cool. i could only think of all the times they'd apparated to somewhere hermione had been before.

thanks for that one.

and yes. they obviously weren't licensed. not sure how that all works...

ok so, p384 (bloomsbury ed.)

He had disappeared inot the unknown; all he could do was repeat the name of the destination and hope that it would suffice to take him there.

but he has a goblin and an elf (though - it's a dying elf. *sniff*) with him. so it's still a little unclear, but it sounds like all you need is the NAME of the desination.

I doubt when the Trio or H and Hr were apparating around the country hiding out from DEs they had already been to all those locations....so my guess is, no. You just have to be able to visualize it somehow....

it's just each time they set up camp somewhere there is a description of when hermione was last there.

i do need to read dh again more closely....

well, lots of those sites, they would mention how hermione had holidayed there once or something.

but yeah it seems that you are right.

my concept of apparition is kind of mixed up in my head with 'going between' on pern.

I thought about this last night when I got to the chapter where Harry and Hermione apparate to Godrics Hollow. I'm guessing this means they can.
