boo for using inferior tea as a last resort -- it's almost worse than going without!
:) ♥ hi there again. I woke up half an hour before my alarm so have a bit of time to poke the flist before work. I think I saw you tagged me back there -I'll have to get to it later today. Had another couple of busy days, but hope to meet up with you on yim sometime this week. *loves*
i was just talking about the tea thing to someone today.
what i said to them was
i'm particularly fascinated by the 'tea thing'. i ADORE tea. it's my drink of choice. but when i tell an american that they want to know 'what sort' " 'erbal?" or this blend or that etc etc etc. ummm. no. because that's herb tea and it's a different animal. and i love it. but it's not 'tea'. tea is china tea. and it's all about getting the best leaves, having the water JUST exactly at the point of boiling and then getting the balance with the milk right. etc. lol.
so there you go.
i drink chai now. and chamomile (but only with the actual flowers!) but herb teas to me are medicinal. so i tend to drink something specific for a purpose, but i don't think of it as having a cup of tea.
hehe, yes that was very descriptive! Actually, I figured you drank black tea, just wasn't sure if there was a specific one you preferred.
These days I'm drinking a lot of green tea and/or black tea (flavoured with fruit for the summer). Over in the States I think we tend to drink a lot more herbal teas as tea, rather than as medicinal.
Does that mean you don't drink much mint or lemon tea? Those are two of my favourites, though, admitedly, I think I'm a bit in the minority on those two....
I had a gold-tipped assam tea that was absolutely fantastic a few days ago- just the perfect amount of milk, a smidge of sugar. It was perfection! :o)
i drink mint tea sometimes if i have a lot in the garden. and lemon tea i associate with having a cold. (same with thyme and sage.) hehe. i like lemon grass tea, as well. linden tea (lime flowers) is for calming a fever or emotional upsets. really good for children.
i tend to call those infusions rather than 'tea' to not confuse them.
so far as types of black tea i have been known to buy darjeeling, assam, russian caravan, orange pekoe etc, but they're kind of for being posh. a bit like having a long name for the exact sort of coffee you drink, rather than just 'coffee'. if you see what i mean.
for 'proper' tea i prefer 'bushells gold label' but i usually drink mildura or nature's cuppa since they are lower in caffeine. and i take it white with sugar. (though i can drink it black and without sugar).
oh, and hubby likes good old earl grey with honey.
