Stuff that can take up ALL your time

Aug 11, 2013 12:52

It all started when I met up with my Sweet Baboo at his reunion two years ago.
"I've been watching that new HBO show...."
"No," I tried to shut him up but he continued.
"I'm not into all that magic and dragons and wizards stuff but I kinda like this...."
"No!" I tried to shut him up again.
"It's actually quite good," he finished.
"Not gonna see it," I stood firm.
"Aw, c'mon [Me]. See it," he wasn't really trying to coax me.
He was just opposing me.
"Not gonna get involved," I was resolute. "Got too much other stuff wasting my time."

Well, when we started dating (like 2 months after his reunion) he started it up again.
"Here, I DVRed it," he said while leading me in front of the TV. "Let's watch the first episode."
"No!" I refused.
"C'mon," he insisted.
"Do I have to beat you already?" I asked.
"You'll like it," he guaranteed. "Just the first one. C'mon, [me], it's got dragons!"

So I watched the first ep, counting down the seconds 'til it was over.
Nope.
Didn't like it.
Especially the close ups of boobs and nipples.

"Did you like it?" he asked.

Had he been any other man- I would have punched him and never seen him after that.
But it was my long, lost Sweet Baboo.
So, I smiled and said, "It sucked."

"No, it didn't!" he exclaimed.
"Yep," I assured him. "It did."

He had been trying to get me to watch more of it- because maybe the first ep wasn't enough to rope me in.
"They have dragons, [me]. Dragons!"
I wasn't about to be roped in.

I suppose the second season was going on- he kept trying to get me to watch it.
"Don't you want to see the dragons?"
I still refused.

But then, by accident, I clicked on the video here:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/10/game-of-thrones-recap-season-2-video_n_2847848.html

And then, I HAD to find out what the hell happened and what was gonna happen to the little girl and two little boys.
It wasn't dragons, or the overload of sex and nudity, or family slogans and crests that drew me in- it was concern for those children's welfare.
2of4 started reading the books.
"They have dragons," she said.
"Who cares about dragons?" I asked. "Do the little girl or the little boys die?"
"I don't know," she answered, "But they also have wolves."

That was the clincher.

And with that- I bought the first two seasons and we caught up on all the episodes and now everyone has their favorites.
Sweet Baboo loves the dragon family.
2of4 loves the wolf family.
My son loves the lion and squid families.
I just wanna make sure the kids are alright in the damn show.

"Who does [me] love....?" 2of4 wondered aloud.
"No one," I confirmed.
"The children," my son offered.
"No- Davos!" 2of4 answered herself. "He's loyal and honorable. She loves HIM!"

Damn it.
How do they KNOW these things?

2of4 and my son love this story SOOOOOO much, we bought a board game based on it.
They play the families they want.
"I don't wanna be the fat king!" I protest.
"But Davos is a part of that family," they convince me to play.
Fine.
I must admit, I do love destroying my enemies when we play it.
Even though I don't know what the hell I'm doing or what's going on.

And my Sweet Baboo whispers- "See? I knew you would like it."
"You didn't mention the wolves," I tell him.
"Didn't you see them in the first ep?" he asked.
"I didn't realize how much a part of the owner they represented," I said, "And for the record- I don't LIKE the show... but I don't mind wasting my time with it."
And I must admit- I did cry when a wolf had to be killed for no good reason.
Also cried when I read it in the book.

And now- 3of4 tells us there's gonna be a Comic-con here in town for Halloween.
2of4 and my son wanna meet the wrestlers.
Sweet baboo wants to meet Batman and Robin.
I wanted to be left alone- until I saw that Starbuck is gonna be there!
(Don't let Sweet Baboo know how much I wanna meet Face!)
Well, this all is gonna cost us food we won't eat next year.
And to top it all- I was recruited to sew capes and dresses.
Guess what we're all dressing as.....

(Spoiler- 1of4's little-little is gonna be a dragon)

And speaking of the little-little....
I ordered The Dangerous Christmas of Little Red Riding Hood on DVD.
The last time I watched it I was three years old.

"You remember that when you were three?" Sweet Baboo is amazed with my memory.
"I remember I liked the wolf and that it had The Animals in it," I said. "There are certain scenes that stand out in my mind. Others I forgot. I just want to see it again."

We watched it together and he enjoyed it.
I did, too.
And now, it's for the little-little (she's 5) to enjoy.

I have to say- they just don't make shows like that anymore.
This program was very influential in my wanting to be a performer.
And a wolf.
