My friends are doing a giant ($300K) remodel in wallingford right now. Instead of renting a place, they bought a duplex, and are living in half of it right now and will rent it when they move back into the house. So they'll have a rental property. Even my friend who just did a 1-2 week kitchen remodel moved out of the house during it. I'd want to move out if you're not going to have a kitchen for a while. That seems hard to just live with.

Good to see you on here! I was watching the Sex and the City movie the other day and thought of you.

We did a serious remodel of our house in Bothell, and did the majority of the big stuff before moving in. But with that said we weren't adding on so it wasn't a huge time frame. I think it would probably be worth it to stay somewhere for a while if you are expanding, especially with a kitchen.

No advice. We are in the same boat. 1955 house in a great neighborhood in the city proper and we want more space!
