I think it's just perspective. When I was a child, my problems were monumental when I had them. It's just now those seem easy. I'm sure when you have kids and one gets arrested for (allegedly) peeing on the side of Crunchy's then the problems today will seem easy in comparison. I don't think life gets more complicated. I just think that we get more responsibility and our problems seem bigger than before.

You could spend your time thinking that it was easy "back then" or you could just realize that it's a different point in your life and deal with it as it comes.

Hmm. I don't think I've ever thought life was easy. There have been many times when things seemed to be going my way and I thought "life is good". But there have been so many ups and downs in my life that I can't see any extended period of time as being "easy" except maybe when I was a very young child.

I'm guessing you're feeling this way because you had a good thing going with someone you liked a lot, got into grad school, got a new apartment and from your posts, you definitely seemed to be in a great place. Now that major source of happiness isn't available to you so you're feeling a little down and thinking that things used to be better. Obviously that's to be expected (I've been there). But don't worry, "this too, shall pass" and you'll be your normal cheery self in no time :)

life always seems easier when you reflect on moments when you were carefree and didn't have to make decisions. The older you get, I think the more decisions you have to make, and even though you thought before you had to make a lot of choices, as you get older, they just keep coming (renters insurance? purchase a home? buy a pet? get married? pre-nup? job? location? etc ( ... )
