I feel this so much. I've been in this place. It's a hard way to learn endurance, flexibility, and resilience, especially for children. I always tried to be honest with mine, but seeing the pain in their eyes nearly broke me a time or two. Hugs and peace~~~
This is such a hard thing to go through-- the worry, the attempts to keep your children warm and fed and happy, and the frustrations they'll feel at not really understanding.
For all that her husband abandoned them, and ought to be contributing to his children's upkeep, this is still the reality for far too many. You captured the fears and frustrations very well here.
