I noticed them instantly at the school pick up. A rush of excited eight year olds pouring out the school gates. The flash of coloured paper clasped in tightly gripped hands. Another birthday party invitation

*sigh* I know this heartbreak. This happened to my son at about the same age, and it wasn't just a question of not being randomly invited-- it was again the entire class being invited except for him.
As far as I knew, that boy liked my son (most kids did), and I never got any weird vibes from his mother. But I was thinking about this again just the other day, and it was 10-11 years ago!
This kind of random hurt or meanness is one of the hardest everyday things a parent has to deal with. You ache for your child, but you don't know how much to talk about it-- because you don't want to make it worse.
Our daughter didn't have the whole-class-except-me situation come up, but there were a lot of occasions of being omitted once she was in grade school. She was sweeter and less outgoing than our son, but then again... little girls are often so much meaner than little boys.
Kids can be very cruel. These aare the ones who usually aren''t taught empathy and compassion and your son is the better heart for having these traits.
That's awful and I'm sorry your son had to go through that, but he is obviously strong and has a huge heart!! It is so tough to watch someone you love get hurt and have to stand by for their own sake. And the last part brought a big smile to my face!! 😁😁 "And if some kids ended up with no cake or toys in their party bag, well I guess thats just one of lifes unfortunate little coincidences." Loved it!! ❤️❤️
