Mommy wars

Since my last post, I've given birth. Caleb's almost 3 weeks old now. It's amazing how quickly time goes by.

I'm a stay-at-home mom now, mostly by choice. So I found it interesting to see the MOMMY WARS story on Good Morning America this morning. My older two children were in daycare right from the start, and constantly up until I married Rick

Very belated congratulations

Suzanne, I'm sorry I haven't said congratulations on Caleb until now. Congratulations.

(My only excuse is that I was ignoring livejournal for a few months)

As for the "Mommy Wars", this is a cyclical trend in pop culture pontification. It tends to wander back and forth between "the kids need more 'parental' (read: mommy) time" and "let's look at the phenomenon of over-bearing, always-with-their-kids mothers". The only unifying theme is "Ack! Mothers are doing something wrong! Convene the (> 70% male) panel of experts!".

In recent years, I think that the cycle between these two positions has sped up, so that you now have a collision of the two contradictory positions. (But that's ok, since it's still women doing the wrong thing, which is always good to hold talk shows about)

The recent Koufax award winner for "Most Deserving of Wider Recognition" Echidne of the Snakes has had many words on the "Mommy wars" - here's one post I happened to remember particularlyBy the way, thinking of recent babies, had you heard that Brendon

Like you, I miss a lot of comments. Mine are generally e-mailed to me, don't know how I missed this one (could be that 4+ months w/o internet access). I had no idea they had a baby. That's good for them. I think it's funny that he's only about 2 weeks younger than Caleb. You know, the whole time Chris and I were dating (almost 2 years), I think his mom wished he was with Kate... It all worked out in the end. :)
