I spent my day watching curling, getting made fun of for watching curling, teaching others how curling is scored, being ignored by my nephew at his own birthday party which resulted in watching more curling with my brother-in-law who didn't know which channel it was on and was sad that he kept missing it... Then I came home and watched hockey, followed now by more curling.

i tried watching curling the other day on tv...and i figured out that i understand NOTHING (less than nothing, if that's possible) about how it is scored. NOTHING!

lol. the score is determined by the number of stones you have closer to the button--the center of the rings--than your opponents closest stone. So if you had all 8 stones in the house--the rings--and the other team put one right on the button they win with one point (more only if they have others closer than your closest).
If there are two stones on the button from opposing sides and they look too close to call they'll get out a special measuring stick to tell who was closest. The closest one takes one.
If only one team has stones in the house (which includes any biters hanging on to the outside of the 12ft ring) that team scores for every stone.
That being said. My last class of the day is a small group of fifth and sixth grade boys who have figured out that I'm a huge sports fan. Though they've not learned that I know nothing about who plays for whom in Basketball. And today to get me off topic one of them asked 'Did you watch curling, yesterday?'
The ice truck killer is totally crushable. Even if he is a sociopathic killer. (Also, Dexter just does NOT have good stopping points! I feel very bad for people who watch it as it airs!)
I kind of wondered whether watching Dexter would be worthwhile. The idea of a happy-go-lucky serial murderer had me in something of a moral dilemma. Murder bad, goes the thinking of my middle years. It's been a good long while since I've plotted the deaths of annoying colleagues for fun. Steven in the soil mixer. Eileen in the cardboard baler.
I've never watched 24 and after it got away from me( Season 7, already??), I didn't think I could catch up, but I've put it in my Netflix queue.
Glad you're feeling all-of-a-piece, at one, at peace. Ah, contentment.
try it you'll like it!mrswolfwoodFebruary 22 2010, 22:49:45 UTC
Dexter is most definitely not happy-go-lucky...he's taking out the trash--a serial killer that only kills people that deserve to die, basically. I think you should think of him as more of a twisted vigilante than serial killer. :) And I think you will like it. It's smart and engaging and the actors are wonderful.
24...I love 24 so much. I have loved Kiefie forEVER and I think you should start with Season 1. So far my fave season I think was Season 3--one of the most shocking things ever on film, forget television...and now they are on Season EIGHT already! I hope Kiefer has recovered from his surgery....he's been so good to my dad, distracting him every Monday night, that I want him to stay healthy and happy for many years to come.
